CREATIVE WAYS TO CAPTURE BEAUTIFUL FAMILY PHOTOS WITHOUT SHOWING YOUR CHILD'S FACE

Respecting Privacy & Embracing Connection Through Thoughtful Photography POSES

I often meet mums who want to preserve their family's most precious memories—but without showing their child’s face. In fact, I think the desire to not show your child's face on social media is growing!

Whether it’s for privacy, online safety, or your little one simply doesn’t love the camera, I want you to know:

beautiful family photos are absolutely possible without ever needing a face-forward pose. In fact, some of the most emotionally rich and visually striking images come from the quiet, in-between moments and simply just being and playing together.

This blog is for you—4 posing tips for Brissy- based mums who want professional, heartfelt family photos whilst respecting your privacy on the socials.

Take a look at my recent newborn shoot with the Kelly family for inspiration too!

1. Back-Facing Poses

One of the simplest yet most emotive approaches: have your child facing away from the camera.

Imagine a quiet moment with your child holding your hand, looking out at the sunset or running towards the waves at the beach. These images often feel more emotional—inviting your friends and family into the moment without revealing any details of your child.

2. Detail Photography

This has got to be one of my favourites.

Tiny hands in yours. Chubby feet on a picnic rug. Little fingers wrapped around a toy.

Close-up photography of your child’s details—without showing their face—can be deeply personal and timeless. After all, these are going to be the details you’ll miss one day: the tufts of baby hair, the dimples on their knuckles, the way their shoes always end up on the wrong feet.

3. Silhouettes at Golden Hour

Silhouette shots are a dreamy and powerful way to tell your story without showing faces.

Brisbane’s golden hour light (just before sunset) offers the perfect backdrop for these moments! Picture your family walking hand-in-hand, outlined against the fiery sky. You’ll get high-impact imagery that feels magical.

4. Movement-Based Photography

Children naturally move. Let’s embrace that!

I use play-based prompts to keep sessions relaxed and child-led—skipping stones, chasing bubbles, or twirling with mum. The motion often means faces are turned away, blurred, or partially covered by hair or hats—resulting in candid, natural storytelling.

It's also such a fun way to remember how your kids love to play and what they love to play with! Bring along the toy cars or play a game of Red Rover!
