FROM MY HEART: 7 TIPS EVERY BRIDE SHOULD KNOW FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY

Planning a wedding can be an exhilarating yet overwhelming experience. When planning my own wedding in Brisbane last year, I could not get over the fact that brides are expected to plan their wedding day to perfection, without actually ever having any experience doing it before!

It's like showing up to your first day of work without any study!

As a Brisbane-based wedding photographer, I've witnessed firsthand the joys and challenges that come with orchestrating the perfect day.

To help you navigate this beautiful journey, here are some essential tips that every bride should know.

1. Do a Marriage Course

Before diving into the wedding preparations, seriously consider doing a marriage course!

These courses offer invaluable insights into communication, conflict resolution, and understanding each other's needs and expectations. It's a wonderful opportunity to strengthen your relationship and ensure you're both on the same page as you embark on this lifelong journey together.

My husband and I did a pre-marriage course through Alpha Australia (link below), and it has been the most valuable tool in setting us up for success in our first year of marriage!

2. Forget the Snail Mail

In today's digital age, sending out digital invitations is not only eco-friendly but also incredibly convenient. I can't tell you how long it took us to hand out our invites, let alone realising you've made a mistake or having some details of your day change after you've sent the invite out.

Digital invites can be easily customized, tracked, and updated. Plus, they save you time and money on printing and postage.

Websites like Canva or With Joy let you create invitations and wedding websites that are sure to rival your traditional stationary.

3. Don't Bother with Wedding Favours

While wedding favours are a lovely gesture, I can't tell you how many times I've been to a wedding and seen left over or forgotten favours.

Instead, focus on creating memorable experiences for your guests. Why not try a personalised note or heartfelt speech to each of your guests? This can leave a sweet and lasting impression without the added expense and effort of favours.

4. Husband, who?

I'll say it once, and I'll say it again, you never want the person you spend the least amount of time with on your day to be your spouse!

Whether it's a first look, a quiet moment after the ceremony, some alone time during bridal portraits, or a drink together before the reception, make sure you schedule some along time with your new husband or wife! These moments will allow you to connect and savour the commitment you just made to each other.

5. Bridal Party Dinner Vibes

In the lead-up to the big day, invite your bridal party over for a casual dinner at your place.

It's a wonderful way to bond, express your gratitude, serve them, and discuss any final details. Everyone will feel relaxed and have the chance to get to know each other prior to the big day.

Trust me, this really sets the vibe!

6. Don't forget the content creation!

Engage your guests by setting up a fun photography or videography project - they love having engaging and fun things to do in the interludes of the day!

Plus, these personal touches add a unique perspective to your wedding memories that you might not otherwise get to see as the bride and groom!

Bring disposable cameras or use a camcorder to capture some sweet BTS you wouldn't otherwise get to see! You could also set up an audio guest book where guests can record phone messages to you.

You also might want to assign a friend to do some content creation (if you aren't already hiring a professional content creator!).

7. Set Your Spending Priorities Together

Okay, no one likes to talk about it. The B-word!

Weddings can be expensive, so it's crucial to set your spending priorities with your partner early on and make a budget. If you've always dreamed of spending $$$$$ on a videographer or a pet-sitter, but you haven't set that expectation with your partner, they might totally dismiss it!

Discuss with your partner what aspects are most important to you—be it the venue, photography, catering, or entertainment. Allocate your budget accordingly and don't stress about everything else.

Focusing on your priorities ensures that you invest in what truly matters, ease your stress, and create a day that's deeply meaningful and enjoyable.

Remember, the best weddings are those that reflect your unique love story and values!
